How does
 Precious Metals  Trading Work?

Precious metals trading involves speculating on the price movements of commodities like gold and silver without owning the physical metals. Essentially, you enter into a contract to exchange the difference in the metal’s price from when you open to when you close the trade, aiming to profit from price fluctuations.

CFDs allow you to trade precious metals on global markets without the need to buy or store the physical assets. The objective is to profit by buying if you expect the price to rise, or selling if you anticipate it will fall. This offers the opportunity to benefit from both rising and falling markets, providing access to trading opportunities in the precious metals sector.

Opening the Position:

The price of Gold (XAUUSD) is listed at 1852.10/1852.60. Believing that gold prices will rise due to increased investor demand for safe-haven assets, you decide to buy 5 lots at 1852.60. Each lot is equivalent to 100 ounces of gold, and the price movement of 0.01point is equal to $1 per lot. 

For every 0.01 point rise above your purchase price of 1852.60, you will make $5 (since you have 5 lots), and for every 0.01 point decrease, you will lose $5.

Closing the Position:

Ten days later, following a surge in market uncertainty, the price of Gold (XAUUSD) has risen to 1878.55/1879.05. You decide to sell and take profits by closing your position at 1878.55.

The gross profit on your trade is calculated as follows:

Opening Price: 1852.60 x 500 ounces (5 lots x 100 ounces) = $926,300
Closing Price: 1878.55 x 500 ounces = $939,275
Gross Profit on Trade: $939,275 - $926,300 = $12,975
